China and Malaysia look to stay strong as the two countries embark on a new era together. Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday in Beijing that China hopes to work with Malaysia on deepening the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
Wang made the remarks during his meeting with Daim Zainuddin, the special envoy of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. Daim also serves as the leader of the "council of elders," which was formed to advise the government on economic and financial matters during the transitional period.
Wang noted that China has confidence in the future of Malaysia's government and will hold top talks and help further communication.
Daim spoke highly of the ties between the two sides, given the fact that China and Malaysia share a rich history. He hopes both China and Malaysia can continue to cooperate closely for the benefit of both nations.
Daim expressed the newly-elected Malaysian prime minister's wish for an official visit to China as soon as possible.
