Dalian fashion week: Local brands get highlighted at event

Dalian Spring Fashion Week 2019 is now underway in the coastal city in northeast China's Liaoning Province. The event is bringing together fashion designers from both home and abroad.

Focused on the theme of "Fashion Statement," the seven-day event includes 54 shows, featuring both local brands and others from France, Japan and South Korea.

Liu Miaomiao is a designer from Beijing. She said: "People here in Dalian love fashion. I'm so excited to showcase my designs here."

Dalian is home to more than 2,000 garment factories and the city also has several fashion institutes that cultivate upcoming fashion designers.

Li Yunsheng is the organizer. He said: "Fashion designers play a crucial role in the fashion industry. So Dalian offers young designers, especially graduates from fashion institutes, more chances and funds."

Since its establishment in 2011, the event has become an important platform for local designers. And more than 160 brands have showcased their products here.

In addition to fashion shows, forums, trade fairs and exhibitions will also be held during the event.

Dalian Fashion Week is held twice a year, with the Spring/Summer collection in April, and Autumn/Winter collection in September.

This season's event runs through April 18.
