Today is Earth Day, an annual event that takes place on April 22. Since 1970, when the first Earth Day was celebrated, the special day has been focusing on world environment protection. This year's theme is "Protect Our Species."
Just a few days ago on April 13, the only known female Yangtze giant softshell turtle died during her fifth artificial insemination, after years' effort for a natural reproduction. This is a tragic loss for the whole species.
In 2018, in Sudan, the last known male northern white rhino, passed away.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the earth has lost half of its wildlife in the past 40 years, which should be a stark warning sign for all of us.
Can we reverse the trends?
Let's explore the answer in CGTN's video made for Earth Day.
