The Arab region has often been at the center of international scrutiny as this resource-rich region has experienced numerous political upheavals.
Despite the turmoil, China has kept historically friendly relations with Arab states. Now, it intends to step up collaboration through the Belt and Road Initiative.
"It has been supported fully by Arab countries because historically the Silk Road has been there between China and Arab Muslim territories towards the Mediterranean and Europe," said Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League.
Aboul Gheit said what China is doing is to renew the past effort. "Arab countries are embracing it, showing great enthusiasm. I'm sure it would be a success."
Over the past year, China has also taken up the leading role to promote globalization and rule-based trading system. Aboul Gheit said the impression China is putting on the international map is very clear economically as well as politically.
"The world needs a country like China, a developing country, but with industrialized and economic potential to create enough balance," said Gheit.
