The Chinese national athletics team on Thursday announced the list of participants for the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. Two of the team's biggest names in racing, Su Bingtian and Xie Zhenye are on the list.
Though they will go to Doha, in order to prepare for the 2019 World Championships in Athletics (also in Doha), Su Bingtian and Xie Zhenye will not run in the men's 100-meter sprint, but will compete in the men's 4x100m relay race together with Liang Jinsheng, Xu Zhouzheng, Jiang Hengnan and Wu Zhiqiang.
Xie Zhenye will participate in the men's 200m race with Liang. When he came back from the team's winter training session in the U.S., he said in an interview: "Both events (100m and 200m races) matter the same to me. No matter in which I make breakthrough, I'm doing it for China." Currently, Xie Zhenye holds China's national record of 20.16 seconds in the men's 200m race and he is aiming to get closer to 20 seconds in Doha.

Wei Yongli and Liang Xiaojing will attend women's 100m sprinting. Wei failed to win gold in the 100m sprint at the 2018 Asian Games, which was quite a hit for the athlete who finished the race with a time of 10.99 seconds in July, 2018. As for Liang, she ranked No.5 in 200m race at the 2018 Asian Games and reduced her time further to a career-best 11.26 seconds in the U.S. in March. This time, Wei and Liang will compete again with Edidiong Odiong, Bahrain's naturalized sprinter who won the gold of women's 100m at the 2018 Asian games.
Xie Wenjun and Zeng Jianhang will participate in the 110-meter hurdles. Xie Wenjun attended his first Asian Athletics Championships in 2015 in Wuhan, China and won the title with 13.56 seconds. Then at the 2018 Asian Games, he again won the gold in the 110-meter hurdles with a better 13.34 seconds. Xie Wenjun began to follow Liu Xiang's example to alter his running style since the beginning of 2018 and already achieved some progress.
