The resumption of high-level China-US economic and trade talks depends entirely on the wishes of the US side, according to a press conference held by the Information Office of China's State Council in Beijing on Tuesday.
"China is open to resolving economic and trade differences through consultations and negotiations," said Wang Shouwen, vice minister of commerce and the deputy representative of international trade negotiations.
"To make negotiations effective, first, we must treat them (the US) equally and respect each other. Now that the US has imposed such a large-scale trade restriction, how can the negotiations proceed? It is not an equal negotiation," Wang added.
China and the US have carried out four rounds of talks, achieving a lot of consensuses. However, the US side has gone back on its word and imposed new trade restrictions.
"As long as we treat each other equally and with sincerity in the negotiations, and abide by the promises, we can find a way out," said Wang.
