A Ningxia-based boutique winery won the award at this year's International Wine & Spirit Competition as Chinese wine and spirits are seeking recognition at one of the world's most prestigious spirit competitions.
HeLanShan Manor, a small winery in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, was awarded the Chinese Best Wine Producer at this year's International Wine & Spirit Competition, or IWSC. It is the second year that a trophy was specially designated for the Chinese wine producer.
"I think there is an outside impression of a lot of Chinese wineries being very large and the idea of a small boutique winery can win as well shows us here in the UK the diversity of the products that are produced in China, " said Allen Gibbons, CEO of IWSC Group.

Meanwhile, Chinese Baijiu is seeking recognition at IWSC, as the organizer is considering to formally launch the Baijiu Trophy Award next year.
"It will mark the Chinese Baijiu in the history of UK in the coming year and we never have Baijiu to be the special winning category in any of the awards in UK and Europe," said Song Jing, Managing Director of Crown Range Cellar.

Baijiu is the most consumed spirit in the world but only a small amount is consumed outside of China. Chinese Baijiu company Jiangxiaobai introduced Baijiu's drinking culture to tasting experts from other countries at the IWSC.
"Baijiu has almost 1,000 years of history. As one product or one category with such a long history, it really deserves some attention or respect from the outside instead of being just consumed by the Chinese people," said Zeo Peng, International Business Director of Jiangxiaobai.
