The 174km Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway will begin test runs in August 2019. The construction has entered a key stage as the new Badaling Tunnel will traverse beneath the historic Qinglongqiao Railway Station. It is on the famous Y-shaped railway line designed by Chinese railroad engineer Zhan Tianyou. The original railway was China's first independently-built railway in 1909.
