Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday China welcomes Kenya to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative and congratulated the country on its membership in the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank.
President Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi said he has met President Kenyatta three times during the past five years and the two countries' comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has grown fast.
"China is willing to expand cooperation with Kenya in areas including agriculture, infrastructure construction, and health care," Xi noted.
Kenyatta congratulated the success of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and said Kenya will actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative.
The two leaders also witnessed the signing of cooperative documents after the meeting.
