Kim Jong Un has made history by becoming the first Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader to cross the military demarcation line and visit the Republic of Korea (ROK). He met Moon Jae-in, the President of the ROK, to discuss the possibility of a peace deal.
Teng Jianqun, director for the Department of American Studies at the China Institute of International Studies, spoke to CGTN about how the talks between Moon and Kim will certainly have positive impacts on regional peace. He pointed out that the most important achievement of the talks is the consensus reached by the two sides and that the stability of the region will be conductive to the developments on the Korean Peninsula. Moreover, Teng stated that the meeting sends a strong signal to the world that both sides are willing to compromise on various issues regardless of the challenges they face.
