Around 8,000 people gathered for the start of the traditional Battle of Oranges in Ivrea in northern Italy on Sunday. Tons of oranges will be thrown during the three-day festival. The origins of the food fight are believed to date back to around 1,200 AD. It commemorates the city's defiance against a tyrant.
