Weeks ahead the one-day shopping frenzy launched by China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba, which falls on November 11, Wang Jiaxing have dived into his busy package box producing business./ VCG photo
Based in Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province, Wang have been supplying package boxes to retailers on Alibaba’s B2C site Tmall over the last decade. “They call me ‘the Box Man’,” Wang said. / VCG photo
No one ever expected the e-commerce to thrive so fast in China, nor Wang’s corrugated paper box business. In 2017, he provided 10 percent of the package boxes during the “11.11” shopping frenzy, which closed with 812 million logistic orders. / VCG photo
The huge volume of package demand once stood as a setback to Wang. The corrugated paper boxes in China are made of recycled paper while 60 percent of the materials rely on import. A ban on import waste paper in 2016 hugely raised the cost of Wang’s business. / VCG photo
To profit in the price game, Wang’s team came up with the idea to design printed commercials on his boxes. With the printed commercials, he has earned more than adequate capital on developing paper materials, but even prizes in the advertising field. / VCG photo
