China supports reform of the WTO to keep the multilateral trading system up with global development, but certain principles should be maintained, said Gao Feng, spokesman of China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), at a media briefing on Wednesday.
The first one should be fundamental principles of the WTO, including the most-favored-nation treatment and free trade, and the second one is supporting the developing members' reasonable demands, he said.
The operation of the WTO should be based on mutual respect and mutual benefit instead of imposing a few members' decisions on others without negotiation, Gao said.
At the media briefing, Gao also responded to concerns that some foreign companies are considering cutting production in China due to the trade friction with the US.
The spokesman said China is continuing to open its market and improve the environment for investments, and it will also help companies deal with concrete problems.
"The central and local governments are actively resolving problems in the use of land, natural gas, and labor, so we can begin implementing some major foreign investment programs being implemented."
