Home favorite Xie Mengyu on Thursday grappled to the gold medal in the women's 55 kilogram division of the freestyle competition at the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championships in Xi'an in China.
Xie's gold was the first title for the hosts in the continental event being held in China's Shaanxi Province.
She started strong and soon had an early 6-0 lead against Japan's Miho Igarashi. Later on, she picked up four more points to wrap up a 10-0 win in just 1 minute and 27 seconds.
In the women's 76 kg division, China's Pa Liha defeated Hiroe Minagawa of Japan. Pa trailed by a single point early on, but 2 minutes and 19 seconds before the end she got two points with a sideways throw to claim China's second gold of the event.
In other ladies finals, Japan won gold in the 50, 59 and 68 kg categories.
