Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday called for all society's efforts to deepen afforestation as he joined a voluntary tree planting activity in Beijing.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, underscored that afforestation has long been a fine tradition of the Chinese nation, adding that every citizen and the whole society should get involved in land greening programs to contribute to achievements of afforestation.
Wide participation by everyone in China should be encouraged in pushing for large-scale afforestation of the country to achieve more tangible results, Xi said, urging the whole Chinese society to mobilize itself to further promote a "land greening action."
