China: International community should respect Africa's choices

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Tuesday said that the international community should listen to what Africa has to say about who it cooperates with.

Hua made the remarks during a briefing as a response to Rwandan President Paul Kagame's comments at the High-Level Europe-Africa Summit in Vienna.

"China is active in Rwanda, but not in an inappropriate way," said Kagame, adding that the hypocrisy of Europeans is stunning.

The president also stressed, "In Rwanda, we know our capacity and which Chinese proposals we should accept, so as not to be overloaded with debt. But there are also countries who didn't do good deals and are now getting choked."

"China's sincerity and kindness towards the African people can be felt by them, and the practical benefits from cooperation with China can also be felt by the African people," Hua said at the briefing.

She added that it is an undeniable fact that the China-Africa cooperation is sincerely welcomed by African countries and people, and has been positively viewed by the international community as well.

Hua emphasized that African countries and people have the right and ability to independently choose their partners.
