Xi: China, Russia enjoy the highest level of mutual trust

‍Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke highly of China-Russia relations in Beijing on Friday and expressed the willingness to work with Russia to further promote the development of their bilateral ties.

Xi made the remarks during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who's in Beijing for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) scheduled for April 25-27.

China and Russia have enjoyed the highest level of mutual trust, the closest cooperation and huge strategic importance, Xi said.

Noting that Russia is an important partner in co-building the Belt and Road, Xi called for the two countries to continue to promote cooperation in economy, trade, energy, science and technology and aerospace in the next stage.

He stressed that the two countries should strengthen international cooperation and adhere to multilateralism.

Putin, on his side, said the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Xi has built an important platform for expanding international cooperation and has received wide support from the international community.

He said Russia is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and work with China in energy, connectivity and other major projects, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation of the Korean Peninsula and Venezuela, and agreed to maintain close communication.

On the same day, Putin received the title of an honorary degree from Tsinghua University, and Xi attended the awarding ceremony.

Xi congratulated Putin, saying that Putin is a good and long-time friend of the Chinese people and has made important contributions to the relations between the two countries.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. Xi said that he hoped that the young students of the two countries will inherit the friendship between the two peoples and contribute to the development and revitalization of their countries.

Putin said Tsinghua University is a world-famous university and has trained a large number of top-quality talents.

He said he is honored that Tsinghua University awarded him a doctorate and held this ceremony.
