Analyst says trade war will hurt Asia as a whole

By Su Yuting

A trade war or trade conflict between the U.S. and China will hurt not only the two countries but all of Asia, Bundit Limschoon, secretary general of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, has told CGTN

Bundit, speaking on the sidelines of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilization, said, however, that conflict can be managed in the globalization process.

“Frankly speaking, we inevitably have conflicts in human history and we try to make sure that the conflict can be controlled," he said, indicating that more openness is a good thing for Asia.

"Now we are at the center of global prosperity, it means that countries in Asia will receive negative input from the trade war," he said.

He explained that since Asia is completely integrated in terms of economic production with a new supply and value chain, when a country hurts China, all in Asia will suffer as well.

The secretary-general also emphasized that this is a good time for Asia to speak with the same voice. “We need to keep Asia an open economy and open society. It will not only good for Asia but will be good for global harmony as a whole,” he commented.

According to Bundit, Asia Cooperation Dialogue will bring human society into innovation and development.

"We have to talk to find the good way to solve the problems. We appreciate China's efforts in boosting mutual learning among different civilizations and building a community with a shared future for mankind," he said.

"China cannot stay alone without Asia, while Asia cannot prosper without China. We have to go together with one Asia."
