China's top political adviser Wang Yang met with a delegation from the Friends of Hong Kong Association in Beijing on Friday, urging Hong Kong to actively embrace the reform and opening up in the new era.
Wang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said over the past 29 years since the association's establishment, it has always adhered to the policy of "One Country, Two Systems" and made positive input to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.
Wang encouraged the association to maintain its fine tradition of both loving the motherland and being devoted to Hong Kong.
It should actively participate in the cause of the reform and opening up in the new era, unite people from all walks of life in Hong Kong, and build it into a bridgehead for the two-way opening up between the mainland and Hong Kong, Wang added.
He also expressed his expectations for the young generation of Hong Kong to carry forward the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, saying a stronger force should be gathered in Hong Kong to make greater contribution to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, as well as the motherland's great rejuvenation.
