China Media Group signs cooperation agreement with Russian news agency

China Media Group (CMG) signed an international strategic cooperation agreement with Russia's Rossiya Segodnya news agency in a ceremony witnessed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok, Russia on Sept. 11.

The agreement was signed by Shen Haixiong, president of CMG, and Dmitry Kiselyov, the director general of Rossiya Segodnya news agency, on the sidelines of the ongoing Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

According to the agreement, the two sides will cooperate in the areas of news exchange, joint reporting and distribution, and promote each other's reports in the fields of humanities, economy and sports. 

The agreement pointed out that the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation in new media fields such as social media. A "Sinorusfocus" app will also be developed as a China-Russia convergence media platform.

In addition, the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation under the framework of the Media Council of the China-Russia Friendship, Peace and Development Committee.

Since its inauguration in April this year, CMG has cooperated with several Russian media outlets including RT TV, TASS Russian News Agency and Siberian Media Group.
