In his latest television interview with the channel TeleSUR, former Argentine captain Diego Maradona has spoken at length on his team's chances after their disastrous campaign so far in the ongoing 2018 World Cup. Following the catastrophic 3-0 defeat at the hands of Croatia, Messi's team is facing a must-win situation in their last group league game against Nigeria. Anything but a win means the two-time former World Cup champions will have to take the earliest flight back home at the end of the first round.
Maradona, in his daily show "By the Hand of the Ten," said that he dreamt of seeing Argentina qualify for the knockout stage in Russia. After the rout suffered against Croatia, the Argentina team depends on a win against Nigeria and an Iceland draw or defeat to move to the second round.
In the face of these possibilities, "El Diego" pointed out that "we opened a small door and we have to take advantage of all ways," despite acknowledging that he felt "a little sad by the current state of affairs in Argentina today."
Argentina will play this Tuesday against Nigeria at the same time that will see Iceland and Croatia locking horns in another crunch game.
