The organizers of the
Boao Forum for Asia have announced a new segment in 2019 to discuss global health development.
The "Global Health Forum of Boao Forum for Asia" will be one of the events to be held in the north Chinese coastal city of Qingdao from June 11 to 12.
Margaret Chan, the president of the forum and a former director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), said the world should pay more attention to the health sector.
"If you manage health care well, you can save a lot of money," she told a news conference in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province on Saturday.

The forum will invite governments, non-governmental organizations, researchers and enterprises to discuss the global health situation and how to improve it.
"We have a lot of hot topics that are worth deep discussion," Li Baodong, secretary-general of the forum, told reporters. "Topics like gene editing and price cuts for cancer drugs have gathered a lot of attention worldwide."

The forum is themed "Health Beyond Health" and covers three topics: Universal Healthcare, Health in all Policies, and Innovation and Health.
Previous media reports had suggested that the forum would be held in January but the organizers made clear that the final date is set for June.
