Chinese and African leaders map out guidelines for further cooperation

The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has drawn to a close in Beijing on Tuesday, with a declaration on building a community with a shared future. The forum has also approved an action plan for cooperation between China and the African continent in the next three years.

The Beijing Declaration on Building an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future between China and Africa fully reflects the consensus of China and Africa on major issues in today's world and demonstrates their determination to unite, share opportunities, and meet challenges; the FOCAC-Beijing Action Plan (2019-2021) sets plans for practical cooperation in various fields in the next three years and beyond, shows the firm will of China and Africa to jointly implement the "eight major initiatives" and promote better and more efficient cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping said.

He said that the two unanimously adopted outcome documents of the Beijing summit has clarified the direction for the development of China-Africa relations. 

The two documents were both adopted at a roundtable meeting for Chinese and African leaders on the second day of the 2018 Beijing Summit of the FOCAC. President Xi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the African co-chair of the Forum, chaired the morning and afternoon discussions respectively at the Great Hall of the People, where Chinese and African leaders exchanged in-depth views on promoting China-Africa relations, deepening cooperation in various fields, building a stronger community with a shared future between China and Africa, building the Belt and Road Initiative as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

The African leaders praised the Beijing Declaration and the Action Plan, and said they will fully promote the implementation of the Action Plan and build a stronger community with a shared future between China and Africa.
