The finals of the individual women's foil and men's epee at the 2018 World Fencing Championships began here on Monday. Among the five Chinese fencers, no one advanced to the last 16.
Xue Yangdong, the only Chinese fencer in men's epee, was defeated by Santarelli Andrea of Italy with scores of 4-15 in the first round of the finals.
In the woman's foil, Shi Yue, Huo Xingxin and Chen Qingyuan were knocked out in the first round, while Fu Yiting was eliminated in the next round, failing to make it to the last 16.
Volpi Alice of Italy claimed the individual women's foil gold and French Borel Yannick won the men's epee competition.
The finals of the individual women's sabre and the individual men's foil will begin on Tuesday. The team women's epee and the team men's sabre top eight will also be decided.
There will be 15 Chinese fencers taking part in Tuesday's competition.
The 2018 World Fencing Championships runs until July 27 at Wuxi New Sports Center Gymnasium. Fencers from 109 countries and regions will vie for 12 titles in foil, epee and sabre.
China has sent 27 athletes to compete in the women's and men's individual and team events.
