In March, the amur adonis pokes out of the snow to become the earliest-blooming herbaceous flower near the edge of the forest. The flower's blooming season lasts for about two months, and when they're fully open, they bring warmth to the Changbai Mountains in northeastern China.

This small yet strong flower blooms in the coldness of early spring and is so sensitive to sunlight that it will close its petals if moved to shaded areas. It withers in summer but germinates again in the chill of autumn so it can bring a splash of brightness to the winter season.
