Shanghai, known as the birthplace of contemporary industry in China, is showcasing its development as a modern industrial hub.
Over 100 industrial locations in the city have opened on the following five tour routes each of which has a different theme:
A 157-year-old shipyard in Shanghai, one of the oldest shipyards in China that symbolizes Shanghai's industrial civilization for over a century, has been renovated into a cultural and commercial complex to retain "industrial architectural relics" covering an area of 26,000 square meters.
Located in Lujiazui, now the thriving financial center of Shanghai, the former shipyard was transformed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who spent more than five years turning the plant into the MIFA 1862 art center.
