La Liga published the fixtures for the 2018/19 season on Tuesday, and they historically broke the ‘symmetry’ of two half seasons, that means clubs will not play each other home and away in the same order during the first and second halves of the campaign. That is to prevent the big local derbys and matches between historic rivals falling on inconvenient dates.
The new season will kick off on August 18 with Real Madrid versus Getafe, and Barcelona versus Alavés. And El Clásicos are on Oct. 28, 2018 at the Nou Camp and on March 3, 2019 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Just one week before the opening matches, the Supercopa de España will take place on August 12, in Tangier, Morocco, and this pre-season match will be contested by La Liga winner Barcelona and Copa del Rey runner-up Sevilla.

For matchday 1, there will be a clash between Valencia (4th place last season) and Atlético Madrid (2nd). And without Zinedine Zidane, we will also see how new manager Julen Lopetegui, who was dismissed from the Spain national team coach’s position two days before the kick-off of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia because of signing for Real Madrid, conducts Los Blancos in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era.
El Derbi madrileños will take place on Sept. 30 and Feb. 10 between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, the 2nd and the 3rd places last time around.
The new season will use the VAR (video assistant referees) technique for the first time, placing Spanish football ahead of their English rivals in the Premier League.
