A 5.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Mojiang Hani Autonomous County in southwest China's Yunnan Province at a depth of 11 kilometers at 10:31 a.m. local time (0231GMT) on Saturday, according to China Earthquake Networks Center.

As of midnight BJT on Sunday, it was reported that 28 people were slightly injured and around 5,000 people were relocated.
According to the relief department, around 25,000 people were affected by the earthquake, and nearly 30,000 residences and 34 schools were damaged during the tremor.
The government is paying high attention to the earthquake, and a team of around 1,500 people is still battling at the scene.

Following the earthquake, a strong tremor was felt, forcing residents to rush out as buildings shook severely.
Residents living in the high-floored area of Yunnan's capital, Kunming, also felt the tremor.
