China and Uzbekistan should make joint efforts to align the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with the Five Priority Areas for the Development of Uzbekistan (2017-2021), Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday.
Xi made the remarks at a meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is in Beijing to attend the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) scheduled for April 25-27.
Describing Uzbekistan as a crucial hub along the ancient Silk Road, Xi said the Central Asian country is also an important participant in co-building the Belt and Road.
Mirziyoyev said it will make all efforts to support cooperation under the initiative.
Proposed by Xi in 2013, the BRI comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along and beyond the ancient Silk Road routes.
