A video clip that has gone viral online in China shows that sometimes it pays not to dawdle when getting off public transport. In the clip, the door of a bus shuts on the backpack of a disembarking student, before the bus driver drives on, dragging the boy for around 10 meters, in Anshun City, southwest China’s Guizhou Province, last Friday.
Local authorities say the driver has been suspended and fined over the incident.
The video led to a heat discussion online, with some netizens believing that the bus driver was not to blame, as he probably hadn’t seen the bag. Others said the bus driver should have double-checked the doors, and not been in such a rush to close the door and drive on.
Some people also suggested that an anti-pinch system should be installed on the bus, to prevent further potential harms.
