The mass-production model of China's unmanned aerial vehicle CH-5, or "Caihong (Rainbow) 5", completed its first flight at an airport in north China’s Hebei Province on Friday.

According to a senior official from the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) CH-5 has a wingspan of 21 meters and can carry a payload of up to 1,000 kilograms. The drone’s maximum operating range is up to 10,000 kilometers. The flight time of the CH-5 is 60 hours.

The successive trial flight means that the drone is ready to be mass produced. The drone was first introduced at an international airshow in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai last year.
