China to issue commemorative coins for Belt and Road Forum

The People's Bank of China will issue a set of commemorative coins on Monday to mark the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which will take place in Beijing on May 14 and 15.
The set has three coins, one gold and two silver, all of which will be legal tender in China, said the bank in a statement.
The front of the coins feature China's national emblem, along with the country's name and issuing year 2017.

The back of the coins will be imprinted with the logo and name of the forum in both Chinese and English, as well as the face value, but with different designs.

The three-kilo gold coin, with a face value of 50 yuan (7.2 US dollars), features a lotus pattern, while the 30-kilo silver coin, with a face value of 10 yuan (1.5 US dollars), and the 15-kilo silver coin, with a face value of five yuan (0.7 US dollars), have decorations of desert and sea surface with ripple respectively.

Proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative is strengthening infrastructure and connectivity from Asia to Europe and Africa via a wide network of projects. Leaders from 28 countries will gather in Beijing for the forum.
