French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron has briefed the media about his views on relations between France and China for the first time, French media outlet RFI reported.
Macron said: "Bilateral relations between France and China boasts a historical meaning. The two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties two years ago. France has maintained a strategic partnership with China in many fields, especially in energy."
Marcron also stated that China now boasts a strong economy, foreign policy and military force and has set a good and responsible example in making commitments to climate change. He added that he hopes to further continue the friendly relations with China if elected president.
Regarding the rules of the World Trade Organization,Macron added: “If I were elected president, I would work to maintain the existed political and diplomatic relationship with China, since China is an important ally to France and Europe in fighting against terrorism, preventing climate change and promoting global and regional peace."
Opinion polls currently suggest Macron will triumph over far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in the second round of voting for the French presidency on May 7.
