Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda has put out some positive words about the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on Tuesday. Kuroda said he welcomes the expansion of the AIIB as a positive for the regional economy.
Kuroda also called for multinational lenders to cooperate in meeting fast-growing infrastructure needs in Asia. He said healthy competition from Chinese, Indian and Japanese initiatives could be beneficial for improving infrastructure, economic growth and social inclusiveness.
Kuroda's remarks were the strongest endorsement to date by a Japanese policy-maker over the growing presence of the AIIB. Some in Tokyo see the institution as a vehicle to boost China's regional clout.
