The Syrian army says Israel carried out a wave of overnight air strikes and missile attacks.

They targeted forces to the northwest of Damascus, causing a series of explosions and fires. Syria said it intercepted one rocket and hit one of the Israeli planes. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sought to justify the unprovoked attack, saying that Israel has a long-standing policy of preventing the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah from Syrian territory.
