China will continue to make maximum efforts alongside Pakistan to ensure the safe return of two Chinese nationals kidnapped in Pakistan and will take further actions to protect Chinese individuals and organizations in the country, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang at a regular news briefing on Thursday.

Lu's response came a day after two Chinese language teachers were kidnapped by unknown gunmen who pretended to be policemen in Quetta, southwest Pakistan.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the safety of its overseas citizens and condemns any forms of kidnapping, said Lu, adding that Chinese authorities and China's ambassador to Pakistan immediately launched emergency response mechanism, and called on Pakistani authorities to rescue the abductees as quickly as possible.
