A new railway service between Kenya’s capital Nairobi and coastal city Mombasa is set to be launched on Wednesday.

The Standard Gauge Railway, constructed with Chinese technical and financial support, will shorten passengers' travel time between the two major cities by over six hours.

The 480-kilometer and 3.8-billion-US-dollar railway is Kenya's biggest project since independence.

The project has created over 38,000 jobs for local residents since it began in late 2013.
