Chinese-made clothes, furniture, appliances, and other products are now on display in Mexico as both countries seek to strengthen economic ties.

The China Homelife fair is being held for the first time in the Latin American country’s capital, Mexico City, from June 13 to 15.

Around 750 Chinese firms are showing their wares off in hopes of striking lucrative deals. China is Mexico’s second-largest trading partner after the United States. And Mexico is China’s second most important trade partner in Latin America.

Similar events have been held in Brazil, Poland, India, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Mexico was the next step as "China and Mexico are enjoying the best strategic diplomatic relations," said Mao Jiaomeng, mayor of the southern Chinese city of Huizhou.

"We want mutual benefit and common development. We are here with open arms to carry out investments," said Mao at the event's opening ceremony.

China's ambassador to Mexico, Qiu Xiaoqi, said relations between both sides are at their highest point, adding that the two nations had spent great energy to improve diplomatic and commercial ties.

"It is important for Mexico to diversify. This moment forces the business sector to seek other markets for its products as well as other investors. It has created conditions for Chinese and Mexican businessmen alike to seek more opportunities," said Karla Loyo, general manager of the China Chamber of Commerce and Technology in Mexico.

Mexican exports to China grew by more than 300 percent from 2005 to 2015.
