Turkish military forces have intensified their offensive against Kurdish militia in Syria's Afrin region. The region is bordered by the Turkish provinces of Kilis and Hatay, both situated northwest of Afrin. Ankara says the Kurdish forces known as the People's Protection Units or YPG, threaten the border area and several cities in Turkey. Ankara launched the offensive on Saturday, making it the country's second major intervention in Syria's seven-year-long civil war.
