Once the pride of the nation, Argentina’s railway lines and equipment are aging and have fallen into a chronic state of disrepair. Many of them are nearly 40 years old. Finally, a solution is on the way thanks to the purchase of 107 new locomotives and more than 3,000 carriages made in China.
They have already begun to arrive, and more will be delivered in the coming months. Drivers are currently putting the trains, which will run on lines in the north of Argentina, through their paces in initial tests.
New carriages are just the first step to renew Argentina’s vast railway network. To reproduce the glory from the old days is a huge job that will take time, just like the task of revitalizing the country’s economy.
