Finance chiefs from the G7 will begin a two-day meeting in Bari, Italy on Friday, focusing on topics such as international tax rules, cyber security and terrorism funding.
However, the participants from Europe, Japan and Canada will also be paying close attention to US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and any clues to US policy on issues such as the economy and climate change.
A Treasury spokesperson said Mnuchin will brief his counterparts in Bari on the Trump administration's still-emerging plans to revamp the US tax system, with major cuts expected for businesses.
