China's C919, the country's first domestically built large passenger jet, took to the skies on Friday. The flight marks a milestone for the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), the Shanghai-based manufacturer of the C919. 
The "C" in the aircraft's name stands for both China and COMAC. The number 9 symbolizes its durability - the Chinese character for "nine" is similar to the character for "forever" - and 19 refers to the plane's 190-seat maximum capacity.
