Besides cat cafes, maid cafes and many others, people can now go to a programmer-themed cafe in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou.
The collaboration between Aliyun, a subsidiary of Chinese company Alibaba Group which offers cloud computing services and solutions, and Costa Coffee, a British coffeehouse company, is the first of its kind in the country.
Located near Alibaba’s office building, the shop has been serving customers mostly from the company, among whom the programmers make up the majority.
There, people can immerse themselves in a geeky atmosphere created by decorations such as keyboards and laptops. There’s also a challenge board for programmers to interact and communicate their ideas while taking a sip of the Apsara coffee, which is named after Aliyun’s own operating system Apsara and “specially for techies.”
Like last week, a programmer wrote a fun question on the challenge board: How to pick clothes for my girlfriend by coding? Lots of customers tried and finally it got answered by another programmer a few days later.
Actually the coffee shop sets questions too. And the one who solves them is given a customized coffee mug.
Wanna go but not in Hangzhou? A staff member at Aliyun said that such cafes will be opened gradually in cities across China.
