With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we suppose this is a good time to bring back a long-lasting topic: love.
When everyone’s able to confess their love through Internet within a second through the hustle and bustle of life, what’s the real concept of love?
An elderly couple in their 90's from east China’s Nanjing city has proved their love in a very vintage way. Feng Duan, a 94-year-old academician, has been writing love poems to his other half, Chen Lianfang, for around 60 years.
The letters that Chen has carefully kept for more than half a century have now filled up a red suitcase.

Feng was a young teacher in the Department of Physics in Nanjing University back in the autumn of 1955, when he invited Chen out for a walk at Qixia Mountain. As they sauntered slowly along the tree-lined trail, a blue kingfisher caught their eyes and soon flew away, which has been regarded as an auspicious omen of their relationship and mentioned quite a few times in the love poems written by Feng later on.
During a visit tour in the US, Feng went on writing to express his love for Chen. In 1978, Chen was diagnosed with cancer, but fortunately recovered after a successful surgery. Feng was so relieved, he wrote ten more poems to portray that he always thinks about Chen.

Speaking of what’s important in marriage, Chen believes that mutual trust matters the most. Feng used to smoke a lot since college, but he chose to quit for Chen, who doesn’t like people smoking. “He was so determined and quit smoking right away real soon,” recalled Chen.
As they both went through a hard time in the past few decades, they didn’t really have diamond rings when they got married and Feng once suggested to buy one to make up for her.
“What’s so amazing about diamonds? He’s just the most shining piece of diamond in my eyes,” she said.

Feng is able to recite poetry even now at his advanced age, according to local media, and Chen basically looks after him with thoughtful kindness during daily life. At the core of it all, what never changes is not just their own way of communication and understanding, but more importantly, a suitcase full of love itself.
