China highly praises US President Donald Trump's adherence to the one-China policy, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lu Kang said on Friday.
Lu made the remarks after a phone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump was held earlier in the day.

During the conversation, Trump said he fully understands the high significance of the US government's pursuit of the one-China policy, adding that his administration upholds this principle.
The one-China policy is the fundamental basis for Sino-American ties, and is of great importance for a stable and sound development of bilateral relations, Lu noted when asked about the phone talks at a regular press conference.
Cooperation between China and the US is necessary for both countries, and also benefits people across the world, said Lu, adding that Beijing is willing to work with Washington to further advance bilateral relations.
This was the first phone conversation between the two leaders since the US president took office on January 20. It came two days after Trump sent a letter to Xi, in which he expressed his willingness to work with the Chinese President "to develop a constructive relationship".
