Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said dialogue and negotiation are the only resolutions to solve the Korean Peninsula issue, speaking during a ministerial meeting on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, held by the UN Security Council on Friday.
The escalating Korean Peninsula tension has aroused graved concern around the whole world. China calls on all relevant parties to resume peaceful talks as soon as possible.
China urges all parties to comprehensively and completely carry out the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Wang also noted that the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system (THAAD) in South Korea has seriously undermined the strategic security of China, and has damaged trust among parties on the DPRK issue.
Wang Yi said that China is neither the focus of current conflicts nor the holder of the key to solving the Korean Peninsula issue, but displays a responsible attitude for the peace of the Korean Peninsula and the stability of the region.
Wang said the most urgent task is to stop the DPRK’s nuclear missile development, but not to argue who must take the first step.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said at the meeting that “all options” for responding to any future provocations by the DPRK “remain on the table”.
