Intense battles on the outskirts of Syria's northern Afrin region continued on Tuesday between Turkish-led forces and Kurdish fighters. Poor weather conditions have reportedly hindered Turkish military advances. CGTN's Michal Bardavid has more from Hatay, Turkey.
MICHAL BARDAVID HATAY, TURKEY "Turkey's Olive branch operation continues in Afrin continues, while Turkish airstrikes were hindered due to bad weather on Tuesday - we expect them to continue on Wednesday. Meanwhile, locals both in Syria and in Turkey are being affected. The United Nations has estimated that about 5,000 people have been displaced in north-western Syria due to the fighting. While in the Turkish border town of Reyhanli where we filmed on Tuesday – and where rockets launched from within Syria are now reaching the city center. Some locals have also started to leave. The Turkish army has announced two of their soldiers have been killed since the operation began, while the Syrian Observatory for human rights says over 20 civilians were killed in Afrin since Sunday. The US has made several statements – calling Turkey for restraint however also saying they understand Ankara's security concerns. Turkish President Erdogan is expected to talk with US Pres.
