Syria Conflict: Erdogan says offensive against Kurds in Syria to continue
[]
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says his country's military operation against Kurdish forces in Syria will continue as long as needed. Turkey is urging fellow NATO member, the US, to stop supporting Syria's Kurdish People's Protection Units or YPG - a group linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party inside Turkey. The YPG is working closely with Washington to fight jihadists in Syria. Washington this week said that in a phone call, US President Donald Trump urged Erdogan to limit Turkey's military actions against the Kurds. Turkey has since said the US misrepresented the conversation. These tensions have raised fears over a military confrontation between the NATO allies.
