The main draw for the China Open was revealed on Friday. As one of the four Premier Mandatory events on the women's WTA calendar and an ATP 500 tournament for the men, the annual tennis event in Beijing brings the world's top players to the Chinese capital.

Two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova attended the draw ceremony. She's in the top half with world number one Garbine Muguruza and third seed Elina Svitolina. Second seed Simona Halep and former world number one Karolina Pliskova were drawn in the bottom half, along with wild card Maria Sharapova, who comes back to Beijing after a three year absence.

Local players may have a tough opening round. Peng Shuai will take on Shelby Rogers, with Zhang Shuai facing Yulia Putintseva. Wang Qiang will meet former world number one Caroline Wozniacki. The women's singles are set to begin later today, and conclude on October 8th.
