Five die after landslide in suburban Beijing

Five people were killed, six rescued and one remains missing after a rain-triggered landslide struck Zhaitang township in western Beijing early on Monday morning, according to China National Radio.

Local police received reports of 12 people missing early on Monday morning. Six of them have been found, five were dead and one remained missing as of 6 p.m. BJT.

The municipal government said rescue operations are still underway. Over 300 people organized by the district and city have taken part in the relief operations, together with local police and social emergency relief organizations.

Heavy rain hit Beijing on Sunday afternoon, causing flash floods and landslides in some areas.
